The top letter is from The Astounding Wolf-Man #3. Obviously hard to read but pull it up on your photo program. That should work just swell. Mine is at the top of the third column.

The second letter is from last week and Invincible #46. Mine starts at the bottom of column 1.

Happy reading. First MONTHLY POLL RESULTS...COMING SOON!

Ladies and Gentlemen, His Supreme Dorkness of Nerd

So. I like me some comic books. My favorites (I should list these somewhere) are conspicuously written by the same dude - Robert Kirkman. All my comic book friends know who he is but most of the rest of you don't. Anyway, he's awesome. He writes millions of books, among them "The Walking Dead" - THE best zombie book in the multiverse. He is also from Kentucky.

My comic book store in Davis Square (Somerville, MA) is called Comicazi. One day they noticed that I was devouring most things Kirkman and started asking questions. Well, my past caught up with me and now my nickname around the comic shop is "Kentucky".

Well, if Kirkman moved to tha MA, I would probably try to marry him even though we are both already married and both have a son. But, whatever. The point is, I DIG Kirkman. And he just made my Thanksgiving weekend by printing a letter of mine in a little super-hero book of his called "Invincible".
Well, ain't that dandy. I seriously haven't stopped smiling about it since I picked up my books yesterday.

So, true believers and excelsiors and all that, go pick up the books shown (Invincible 46 JUST came out and Wolf-Man 3 is from September/October?) and you can read my letters. They're basically me falling all over the dude but they are also funny. Kind of like a make-out session while watching "Harlem Nights".

I might scan the actual letters at some point but I want to turn everybody else on to Kirkman so I don't look so desperate and creepy in my fanboy love for him. But if he ever gets to be single, I saw him first...

Requiescat In Pace, Pappie

Papelbon Romero, 59, of Lurkwood in the northwestern part of Faerun, a half-a-day's journey from Longsaddle, died early Sunday morning, November 18th, 2007 at 1:01 a.m. Papelbon, or "Pappie" to his friends and fellow adventurers, was the half-elven son of Breaga Romero and Elessar Melwasul. He grew up on the westernmost fork of the River Surbin learning the human trades of cooking and weaving and logging. He lived there until his early 40s with his mother and sister Fhaella. After a tragic zombie attack on his village that left his mother and sister turned and among the victims, Pappie set out on his own in Lurkwood and the surrounding area to hone his ranger skills. He occasionally trekked with his half-brother Camthalion, a full-elf and also son of Elessar. Later, Pappie would make his way south to the cities and eventually to Waterdeep where he would meet companions Oakshade, Alas, Manderallen, Nola, Guy, and Zachary Longbeard. Their feats and sagas are of legend in Forgotten Realms. Pappie met his death at the hand of a dark wizard and a red dragon's breath. This was accompanied by and also due to the collapse of the Great Fortress of Mechanis and its subsequent submersion into the planar lava floes. Pappie is survived by fellow adventurer Manderallen and his adopted son, Melvin. Tributes can be made to the goddess Mielikki or to the local ranger's guild or affiliated Churches of Silvanus.
"That's new..." - Pappie

Comic Recommendates #1

The title of this post comes from the podcasts of my LCS (Local Comic Shop), Comicazi in Davis Square.
Check them out here...
What I'm going to try to do is comment on up to 3 of the week's best. And obviously, since Wednesday is new comic book day, my recommendates will follow shortly after I've read my weekly stash. Hopefully, those of you dudes that are reading will check out some of my suggestions, and those that don't read...well, maybe you might find them interesting just looking at the purdy pictures...

UNO
First up, the book on my pull list that I consistently read first when I get it (even on the toilet) is BPRD.
Written by Hellboy scribe Mike Mignola and his partner-in-crime John Arcudi, this follows the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense members (basically everyone in that universe sans Hellboy). If you've seen the movie "Hellboy" you know Liz Sherman the firestarter and Abe Sapien the "fishboy".
All I gots to say is Guy Davis rules this freakin book and his art, along with the gothic horror/macabre sense in every panel is well worth it. The arc "Killing Ground" is finishing up but "1946" starts up in 2008 and just the ad I saw for it has me in a Pavlovian saliva fit.

DOS
The New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Yu.
Short history: Sh*t happened. The Avengers got smoked. Iron Man sells out to Big Brother. Civil War. Big Brother get his "Mighty Avengers", the underground got "The New Avengers".

Membership: Spider-Man, Wolverine (yeah, I know), Luke Cage, The Iron Fist, Hawkeye now as "Ronin", Doctor Strange, Spider Woman?

Bendis knows what he's doing in BOTH titles but Yu's artwork has me excited each month. Plus, the team has to figure out how to walk the line of being superheroes and not getting apprehended by the Tin Man. I have a feeling they'll play a major part in this emerging Skrull Invasion storyline.

TRES
BRIT by Bruce Brown (with Robert Kirkman playing Jiminy Cricket) and Cliff Rathburn.
The ongoing series is starting off slowly for me but the character is cool and his sister is even cooler. Not sure if I'm into Donald anymore. He does this thing with his head a la "The Thing" by John Carpenter when he gets his block knocked off. Time will tell.

The best bet is to get the trade that collects the 3 previous one-shots. The opening battle in "Brit" against Master Mind is worth the money. Wow. BTW, Tony Moore (original Brit artist) pwns.

Get up on that sh*t!

Booze Crooze

"In an office, when you are ranking people, manager is higher than captain. On a boat, who knows? It's nebulos."

-Michael Scott, Booze Cruise episode, The Office (US)

Thank you, TBS, for showing Office reruns.

Anybody want to buy me Season 1 (US)? I know that the BBC version is like 6 episodes each season, but for some reason I want more than 6 US episodes and some extras for $20.

Seriously.

Not the same in Russian...

Sheesh

Went to Shaw's this afternoon to buy cat food and litter.
Heard Christmas songs over their speakers.
And for some weird reason, it feels late to me..

Pulp Fiction NFL

First off, I'm probably the luckiest dude on the planet. Not only do I have the wonderful privilege of being a stay-at-home dad for our 8 month old, the wife LOVES sports.

"What would happen if field goals were worth FOUR points?"
"Hmm," I said.
"Why are they worth three points?"
"Because that's half a touchdown."
"Well, why do they get the extra point then?"
"Hmm," I said.

Being new to this blog I'm new to embedding links but this one should work...

Man, all I can say is that I know absofrickinlutely NOTHING about rugby. That article is long but has some neat history to it. Basically, the point after touchdown (PAT), or "try", comes from football's past but it is interesting that this chance is rewarded to a team that scores a touchdown. One has to wonder why. Why don't you get a PAT after a FG? That's all I'm sayin... The article calls the PAT "anticlimactic". And I agree that it is for the most part, but don't tell Tony Romo or Cowboys fans that.

Anyway, I think I'm down with this idea. Four points for a FG.
Think about it. You go up 20-18 (3 TDs for you, 2 TDs and a FG for them). You HAVE to go for 2!
Right? Sure would spice things up a bit. AND it would give Mike Vrabel WAY more fantasy points.
Not to mention Rob Bironas would have scored 32 points this year alone just in ONE GAME.

They already moved the goal posts back 10 yards on FG kickers anyway. Plus, they are far too easily scapegoated by fans AND players. Yeah, it's their job, but the offense just had at LEAST three tries to do something with it...maybe just move it ten yards...and they couldn't do it. So, now they're forced to make up for your inadequacy?

You know what? FG kickers are the cleaners of the NFL. Rob Bironas is the Wolf. Rob Bironas is the Harvey Keitel of the NFL.

WTF?

So. It begins. Give me the keys, you fairy godmother...indeed.
